How To Guarantee Your Holiday Will Be a Success

Dude, set blasters to 'sun'
Take a break from booking hotels, buying new luggage and reading Trip Advisor to ask yourself this question:

What are you really hoping to get out of this?

We all fall into the trap of thinking that holidays are the cure for everything that's wrong with our day-to-day lives at home. We’ll forget all our problems, eat amazing food, get along every minute and have the best time of our lives! There’s simply no way that any trip could live up to that kind of hype.

A sure-fire way to come home disappointed is to set out expecting miracles. In the excitement of getting out of the house we conveniently overlook all the stresses that travel brings with it - stress on your finances, your mind, your body, your relationship. Life can be tough ]and it’s understandable to feel the need to escape every now and then, but it’s important to be honest with yourself about this. Travel isn’t an escape. It’s life in another location.

So the key to guaranteeing that your holiday will be a success is to define what that success means. You don't have to lower the bar on your expectations for your time away, you just have to make them realistic.

Have attainable goals
‘To experience new things and enjoy time with my family’ rather than ‘Have the best time of my life and forget all our troubles’.

Remember that your child at home is your child on holiday
If he drives you nuts now then he will drive you nuts there too.

Going to Disneyland will not solve all your problems
Your kids won't suddenly start sleeping through the night and stop being hyperactive.

Be open to miracles but don’t expect them
New experiences change us all (it’s one of the reasons we travel) but it might not be in the ways you’re expecting.

The bottom line:
Make it easy for yourself to have a win on this one.
